No Gi Jiu Jitsu: No Gi Jiu Jitsu is a grappling based martial art made famous by the UFC (and MMA). With a need for a grappling based martial art that combines both aspects of Wrestling and Submission Grappling (without a Gi or uniform) in a Mixed Martial Arts context, lead way for the birth of No Gi Jiu Jitsu. Without the Gi, practitioners rely more on body grips and leverage rather than using the Gi for pins, control and submissions. Its premise is to help develop one’s kinesthetic intelligence and proprioception whilst utilizing a combination of tactical and biomechanical strategies with a focus on capitalizing on one’s own anatomical capabilities (regardless of athletic capacity alone) against an adversarial opponent seeking to control you against your own will. It’s a highly strategic and technical martial art that emphasizes control and submission based on the premises stated above. It is often described as a “physical chess game” due to the emphasis on technique and leverage over brute strength alone. It’s a martial art adaptable for all ages and lifestyles with real world applications in unarmed combat. Judo: Judo (Ju Do), which means “gentle way” in Japanese, is a martial art, combat sport, and the most practiced Olympic discipline that emphasizes on grappling and throwing techniques in a uniform referred to as the JudoGi or more commonly known as the Gi. Origins: Judo was created in 1882 by Kanō Jigorō, who adapted techniques from traditional Japanese Samurai based martial arts for throwing and disabling an opponent on the battlefield in unarmed combat. Techniques: The primary techniques include throws, pins, joint locks, and chokeholds. At the competitive level there is a higher emphasis on throws and takedowns. Training: Practitioners, known as the Judoka, train in a uniform called a Judogi (often called a Gi). Training involves both free practice (Randori) and pre-arranged drills and form (Kata). Philosophy: Judo is built on two main principles such as “maximum efficiency with minimum effort” (Seiryoku-Zenyo) and “mutual welfare and benefit” (Jita-Kyoei). Competition: The objective in Judo competition is to throw the opponent with Force and Control (Nage Waza), Pins/Holds (Osaekomi Waza),or via Submission through Arm Locks (Kansetsu waza) or Chokes (Shime-waza) in a Gi. This program is designed to kick start your Strength Training Journey. Here we hone in on the basics as our goal is to build you from the feet up. Creating stability, Isometric Strength, muscle, tendon & ligament strength for injury prevention and giving you the tools to carry you over into other developmental programs as an athlete. On the Force Velocity Curve, we will be tapping into the Max Strength/Strength-Speed Category. We will also focus on lean muscle tissue development for injury prevention. We know that strong muscles go hand in hand with healthy joints. When your muscles function properly, they absorb shock and impact around your joints and protect them from the effects of daily usage and heavy abuse. This is a 8 week program in 2 phases of 4 week increments.

Here our main focus is to maximize our energy systems. Often times we think of building our energy systems on aerobic steady state cardio alone and that's simply not the case. Steady state cardio (IE long distance running, swimming and biking) is definitely advantageous but are not the only ways to build good energy systems and in some cases can be less beneficial depending on other lifestyle factors. A full encompassing athlete also require more demand out of other aspects of maximizing energy systems more so than just solely focusing on steady state cardio. This is a 9 week program in 2 phases of 4 weeks increments with a deload week in the middle.

In our Basic Athletics and Lifestyle program, we try and tackle a little bit of everything. From force production to speed and power as well as having a well-rounded gas tank. Now, keep in mind this will help you MAINTAIN a great overall package. However, understand that we can't be at the top in every category at every moment for overly long periods of time before we do begin to see some levels of regression. Thats why I encourage you to occasionally be phasic or seasonal if you'd like to maximize your potential for growth in all categories as an athlete. With that said, if you're a hobbyist just looking for a great basic all-around program to be a better athlete and have some level of maintenance then this is the program for you!
